Day 1: Indore to Ujjain Journey + Temples Tour
Your journey begins with a warm welcome at Indore airport or railway station, followed by a comfortable drive to Ujjain—the City of Temples. It is the heart of spirituality in Madhya Pradesh and the starting point of your memorable Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga tour. After a 2-hour drive, you will arrive at your hotel, check in, and set out to explore the sacred landmarks of the city.
First, we will take you to the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is renowned worldwide for the unique Bhasma Aarti, performed daily at dawn using sacred ash. Then, we will head to Harsiddhi Temple, which is just 5 minutes away. This revered Shakti Peeth dedicated to Goddess Harsiddhi is believed to have been installed by Lord Shiva himself. It is known for its evening lamp-lighting ritual, where hundreds of oil lamps on towering pillars illuminate the shrine in a dazzling display.
In another 5 minutes, you will reach the Mahakal Lok Corridor. Spread over 900 metres, this newly developed corridor adds grandeur to the Mahakaleshwar temple complex. Here, you will walk through 108 intricately carved pillars, marvel at statues and murals narrating tales from the Shiva Purana, and soak in the artistic magnificence. 10 minutes from there is the Ram Ghat on Shipra River—a holy site that comes alive in the evening with aarti rituals, where devotees light diyas and float them on the river, creating a mesmerising sight.
Then, we will visit the Sandipani Ashram, which is just 3 kilometres from the ghat. Associated with the childhood of Lord Krishna, who is believed to have studied here under Guru Sandipani, this peaceful ashram attracts tourists seeking a glimpse into mythological history. Finally, we will reach the Bada Ganesh Temple—only 10 minutes away from the ashram. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple is home to one of the largest statues of the deity in Ujjain. It is believed to be especially auspicious for students and those seeking wisdom and success. Later, we will drop you at your hotel for an overnight stay in Ujjain.
Day 2: Departure from Ujjain & Mandu Sightseeing
You will start your day with an early breakfast at your hotel in Ujjain. Then check out and set off on a scenic drive to Mandu, the historic hilltop town famously known as the “City of Joy.” Nestled on the Vindhyachal hills at an altitude of 2,000 feet, Mandu is celebrated for its medieval architecture, romantic legends, and sprawling forts.
After approximately 4 hours, you will reach your destination and begin the Mandu Heritage Tour, starting with a trip to Roopmati’s Pavilion. Originally built as an army observation post, this elegant hilltop pavilion offers breathtaking views of Baz Bahadur’s palace and the Narmada plains far below, making it a favourite for photographers and history enthusiasts alike. The site reflects the legendary romance of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati, capturing the imagination of every visitor.
In another 1 km, you will reach the Jahaz Mahal or Ship Palace that stretches 120 meters between two artificial lakes, Munj Talao and Kapur Talao. The palace is admired for its architectural brilliance and serene setting, featuring open terraces, water-facing balconies, and pavilions that create an illusion of a royal vessel floating on water. Next, we will take you to the Hindola Mahal or Swinging Palace. It is just 500 metres away from the Jahaz Mahal, and its sloping sidewalls, ornate facade, and intricate sandstone columns demonstrate Mandu’s innovative medieval architecture.
Then, after 5 minutes, you will arrive at Hoshang Shah’s Tomb. This perfectly proportioned dome with marble lattice work and symmetrical layout is recognised as India’s first marble tomb and is believed to have served as an inspiration for the Taj Mahal! Finally, after travelling for another kilometre, you will reach the Jami Masjid that stands out for its grand scale, high plinth, and massive domed porch. The mosque’s intricate arches, rows of domes, and extensive arcades reflect Mandu’s rich cultural heritage.
After a full day of exploring, you will return with us to your hotel in Mandu, check in, and enjoy a peaceful evening soaking in the sunset views before retiring for the night.
Day 3: Mandu to Omkareshwar en route Maheshwar
On day 3 of the tour, you will wake up to a delicious breakfast and check out from your Mandu hotel to begin the 3-hour-long drive towards Omkareshwar. En route, you will visit the riverside town of Maheshwar, renowned for its spiritual significance, vibrant culture, and handwoven Maheshwari sarees.
The first stop of your Maheshwar sightseeing experience is Ahilya Fort and Palace, located at a distance of about 70 kilometres from Mandu. This majestic fort overlooking the Narmada River was built by the revered queen Ahilyabai Holkar and houses a palace, temples, and a beautiful life-size statue of the queen. Next, we will take you to the Rajarajeshwari Temple—about 10 minutes away from the fort.
